Meet Scott Caldow, Senior Valuer Caledonia Property Dumbarton
We are introducing a series of staff profiles so you can get to know our local teams better. First to break the ice is Caledonia Property’s Owner Director, Scott Caldow.
Q.: How did you start Caledonia Property?
I have worked within the estate agency industry for more than 20 years and back in January 2010 I was working as an area director with a large independent estate agent. I took the chance to take over Caledonia and become my own boss. Since then, Caledonia Property has grew and now has offices in Dumbarton, Clydebank, Paisley a presence in Helensburgh and Alexandria and an Online Department for those out with our core area’s.
Q.: What does a regular day look like for you?
My first passion has always been property, so while I run the business, I still enjoy dealing with property valuations and sales. That makes my days incredibly busy, varied and rewarding.
So I usually come in first thing in the morning and respond to any urgent emails, have a quick stock meeting with the sales negotiators and then prepare paperwork for my daily appointments, this involves research in preparation for valuations, looking at previous sales histories for houses in the surrounding areas, etc. I then deal with all the aspects of actually running the business, staff and accounts, promoting our business locally and all other aspects of being a business owner.
Q.: Could you describe a recent success at work?
First and foremost, I am immensely proud of how the business has grown: we hire a brilliant, motivated team who know the local area inside out, and takes immense pride in looking after clients with all the possible care and responsibility. We are very much a local estate agency, with local roots in the area building personal relationships with each of our clients.
In terms of property sales, I was delighted that recently we were asked to sell a house that had been on the market with another agent for 6 months. Due to our efforts of improving the property presentation with fresh photography, etc and marketing it at a slightly adjusted price, the property sold within a week to the surprise of our client.
Q.: Is there something you wished your clients knew about Caledonia Property?
We don’t charge an upfront fee when selling property, but run a no sale no fee model. This makes us more motivated to do a great job on behalf of our clients and totally committed to delivering the best possible sales and marketing packages available on the market today, embracing all the modern technologies at an affordable price.
Again, I believe it is significant for our clients to know we are a local business, owner owned and run, employing local people and offering a personal tailored service within the local area. Don’t use agents 700 miles away, support business on your doorstep.
Q.: How do you relax after work?
I like being outdoors, enjoying a round of golf or playing 6 or 7 aside football.
Q.: For you home is…
For me home is wherever my family is – we live in Cardross.
