Keep on Top of House Work in 5 Steps

If this year you have made a commitment to keeping your home squeaky clean and well maintained, here we have a few handy tips to stay housework with minimal stress.

Run a Schedule

Establish a schedule with yearly, monthly, weekly and daily tasks to keep on top of all the things to do with home maintenance. For instance, a roof inspection might be carried out annually, while a fridge clean can be scheduled once a month, vacuum cleaning could be once a week and running the dish washer could be daily. Find the schedule that works for you and add it to the family calendar.

Have an annual home improvement project on your list

It might just be wishful thinking, but improving your home little by little every year will get you to where you want your home to be more likely than if you just wait until you can afford that huge extension. That does not mean you have to settle, but rather that you can tackle planning permission and architect’s plans one year and leave the construction for the next. But there are other smaller projects like a garden deck or a sun room, a reading nook or a better under the stairs cupboard that are not exactly major repairs but improve on your quality of life and sum up from one year to the next.

Distribute tasks

All members of the house hold should contribute to the good running of the household. From young children learning to put their clothes in the laundry baskets, to teenagers doing the dishes for pocket money, everyone needs to be involved and contribute to the functioning of the home.

Keep the Right Tools

Having the right tools for the right job makes everyone’s life safer and definitely easier. A good quality vacuum cleaner or window cleaner will make your tasks that much quicker and agreeable. Organize your utility corner and a caddy that is easy to carry from room to room, rather than going back and forth every time you need another cloth or an extra bin lining.

Bring the Right Specialist

Some jobs are really not suitable for DIY so it is a good idea to have a list of tradesmen that can keep you stay on top of your home maintenance. Fixing things at the first sign of showing signs of wear and tear will prevent more expensive or urgent house calls later on. Keep safe and don’t tackle electrical jobs, roof maintenance jobs, etc unless you have the right training and tools.
